Freeport, Ill. - Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn will join members of "Helping Others Maintain Environmental Standards" (HOMES) at the Freeport Airport Friday afternoon, October 24, 2008, at 4 p.m.
Quinn will present members of the organization with an Environmental Hero Award for its efforts to stop the construction of Tradition Dairy, a mega-dairy in Jo Daviess County.
Jim Francis, the president of HOMES, said he was pleasantly surprised when he received word of Quinn's visit.
"We are very grateful for the interest he has taken in it," Francis said. "We're all enthused that he's so concerned. He's always had an interest in this case."
The lieutenant governor's visit comes on the heels of a significant ruling by Fifteenth Judicial Circuit Judge Kevin J. Ward, who issued a preliminary injunction against the mega-dairy on Monday, Oct. 20th.
The injunction restrained Tradition Dairy owner A.J. Bos from operating his dairy, stabling or confining more than 199 animals or dairy cows, and operating any of the waste storage structure.
The injunction will remain in effect until a trial can be held to determine the long-term effects of the mega-dairy's construction.
